The development of the hotel management business is important for the country’s economy, tourism, and international reputation. For this purpose, the Armenian Tourism Federation has invited Hartmut Perl, a highly qualified expert from Germany’s senior consulting service, to Armenia in order to present advanced European experience and global trends to our hotel managers.

When we invite an expert from abroad—especially from Europe—we make sure to emphasize that it’s not because we’re starting from zero. We are already at a good level, and we invite experts not to teach us from scratch, but to contribute to the development and refinement of our skills and knowledge and to align us with today’s international standards.

This is the expert’s first visit to Armenia. He says Armenians are friendly, warm, and hospitable people. Before coming here, he studied Armenia’s hotel system and the specific features of the local market.

First, we evaluated Armenia’s tourism sector, especially in Yerevan. Then we discussed hospitality challenges, followed by sales and marketing, quality standards, budgeting, and finally, climate change, sustainability, and tourism seasonality. Armenia is competitive in the hotel sector even beyond the region. Of course, with this progress come serious challenges. Therefore, there is always room to learn and grow, say the sector’s managers.

The sessions are engaging. Naturally, there are some basic concepts we’re already familiar with, but also new insights—or what we might call clever tricks—that, unfortunately, we hadn’t yet mastered but can now apply to help develop Armenia’s tourism industry.

Most of the participants in the training are hotel managers. There are also participants from Iran. Sara, who manages the tallest hotel in the neighboring country, says that upon hearing about the expert’s visit, she rushed to Armenia.

We have a constant need to learn, so this seminar, dedicated to the challenges of tourism and hotel management, is very practical and effective. I hope it continues and that one day it will be held in my own country as well.

Hartmut Pörl will stay in Armenia for three weeks. After the five-day training in Yerevan, he will head to Jermuk in the Vayots Dzor region to conduct a special training for local hotel managers.
